6-speed question

Hey guys,
When I floor it thru 3rd gear and then shift to 6th because im going 80, it grinds really bad going into 6th. This is my first stick shift car. Is this a big no-no? heh. Should I not do this? Whats going on?

I have a 6 speed and have never noticed this. I have done the 3rd to 6th shift, but only once or twice. Maybe the clutch isn't fully disengaging or you don't have it pushed down all the way. Maybe try going to 5th first then to 6th to see what happens. Hope nothing is wrong.

Not to freak you out, but I have never experienced this.. AND I PROBABLY SKIP MORE GEARS THAN ANYONE!!

I normally drive, 1st - 4th - 6th.. So I only am using 3 gears..
hehe

In any case, when I go from one gear to another, it doesnt grind..

Perhaps if you know someone with more experience, you could let them drive your car and see.

just a thought.

Thanks for the replies. I think that when i get on it hard like that i'll go into 5th and THEN 6th just incase i'm doing something wrong.
On a good note, i finally took some pics! Now i need to make another webpage to put them on (lost my old one cuz AOL sucks)

No it should not be grinding gears, either you clutch isn't disengaging or your tranny mount good be broken.

Mine has started doing this. The synchros are going out. Weak synchros are common for our trannys.
The first thing you need to do is change the tranny fluid. Put in a tube of friction modifier that is used in a posi rear end.
I have done this to mine and the grinding hasn't totally gone, but has decreased. Good thing because I really can't afford to mess with it now.
Not only are our synchros weak, but they get a double whammy of abuse because of the restrictor built into our hydraulic clutch plumbing. It was put there to make the clutch release slowly so the M6 would be easier for non-stick drivers to master. The problem is that if you shift in a 'spirited' fashion, you need the clutch to function quickly. When it doesn't, you are unknowingly putting stress on the tranny by shifting quickly.
The 'drill mod' is supposed to be the answer for this problem.
Good luck
Dave
