410 Gears...

I keep hearing that if I go with 410 gears, my top speed would be lower, I get a lot of different stories. I just wanna know the truth! I don't plan on changing my gears until I get my Moser, but I think its good to know before hand.... Thanks

I had these in my '97 Z28. With the stock 3.42's I would turn 2100 RPM's at 80mph in 6th gear......with the 4.10's I would turn 2100 RPM's at 60mph.....so yes it does bring your top speed down.

since your car doesn't top out in 6th gear with the 3.42 you really don't have that much to worry about. going to a 4.10 would be a minimal if any loss in top speed. the only reason you'd lose much would be the extra power to turn the differential the extra rpm. other than that you'd just be making top speed in 6th gear instead of 5th.

Thanks a lot guys... so in your opinion would 410 gears be a good investment or no? I do a lot of highway racing. I race more on the street than the track. what do you guys think?

it all depends on what tires you have. without some good tires 4.10 gears will just make you shift alot more and have more problems with traction on the street. if traction isn't a big issue, then you would probably like the 4.10's.
