400hp at the wheels? realistic builds and cost?
Re: 400hp at the wheels? realistic builds and cost?
"my car is equipped with the traction control (dunno if they all are) but doesnt have the button to turn it off"
if there is no button to turn it off...than you are not equipped with it.
or something is seriously altered by the previous owner.
to hit 400Rwhp, you can get a much more street friendly cam and a set of mildly ported heads.
400hp would probably not hold long with the stock clutch..but as long as you don't abuse the car, the rear end should hold up decent. now if you start running DRs or slicks and doing hard launches...you'd better have the $$ saved for a 12bolt.

Re: 400hp at the wheels? realistic builds and cost?
We've gotten a little over 410 rwhp out of a heads/cam Z28 with LT's. and I think that was w/out a cutout. Cutout should give a couple more. It's all about the combination!
Re: 400hp at the wheels? realistic builds and cost?
The 400 shouldnt eat up the stock clutch.. but.. it if its abused it will.. The stock clutch in his car is the Z06 Clutch.. *Gotta love how LS6 is only on the engine parts and Z06 for others...*
My clutch with 3500rpm drops *nope.. didnt feather.* will take a few hits before she wants to watch for a an hour or two... but at just under 60K miles... shes holding up well.. at least when its replaced, I know I got my $'s worth out of the stock unit.. (and I will be replacing it with another Z06 clutch instead of the Stage 3 I wanted because I perfer beating people while I am bone stock.. hehe)

These are quite pricey, but would do the trick. http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=28038

why put on 1.8's if you cant use them with most cams? that makes no sense either..

Re: 400hp at the wheels? realistic builds and cost?
If you have the $ get a S/C and be done with it.. gobs of power.. keep you MPG and have power when you need it.. I would rather do a self contained S/C and be done with mods and have a very strong car than to keep adding over and over.. Damn, my shop jack is tired from my LT1 when it was modded! hehe
Re: 400hp at the wheels? realistic builds and cost?
It is a 01. Come on guys, that is the LS6 intake.
$375 Pace Setters
$155? TSP y pipe
$50 cut out
$700 cam kit (around 232 duration)
$65 ported TB
$175? UD pulley
$400 tune (avg)

Re: 400hp at the wheels? realistic builds and cost?
torque will determine what a stock drivetrain will hold, not hp per say. An aggressive cam will do little to the "peak torque", rather they increase high rpm torque resulting in higher HP and greater pull at higher rpms (overgeneralized for the sake of simplicity). Thus the stock clutch will not be experiencing higher torque with the cam swap alone. If the stock clutch is good enough for boltons, its good enough for a bolton + cammed car.
Heads, nitrous, forced induction, those things will put a lot more load on the clutch. Changing clutch usually necessitates changing the rear even if one sticks with street tires (no pun intended). It would be much more economical to go with a heavy duty 8.5" 10 bolt, which is almost as durable as a 12bolt 8.8".

Re: 400hp at the wheels? realistic builds and cost?
Ok thank you guys i think i know which way im gonna go about doing this car. Just gotta go up to the local mustang shop (friends with the owner he loves f-bodies) so he can hook me up with the prices and all, just didnt wanan go there and ask him what to do cause hes insane and would have me leaving with 1200 hp and debt lol.

"As far as the traction control goes, it says in the owners manual that the button to turn it off is an option"
they probably mean the whole system was an option.
i mean...why would GM design a sports car that can't spin the tires??
like i said....either you don't have it...
or someone removed the switch
what makes you think you have it?? cause there is NO WAY you launch better with it on. it will cut fuel to your engine every time it senses wheel spin, and i beleive it also applies brake pressure. HOW ON EARTH DOES THAT HELP A LAUNCH?

Re: 400hp at the wheels? realistic builds and cost?
I really hope you are comfortable around cars with some HP.. far too many people get into more trouble than not because they went for too much HP too fast..

Re: 400hp at the wheels? realistic builds and cost?
My aim was to get 400 hp at the rear wheels, but I didn't quite get there.
Don't know if it has anything to do with the fact that the numbers came from a mustang dyno, but I guarantee my car can keep up with almost anyone's. You not only have to consider the HP numbers, but how the car actually drives.
