Unhappy 3 Problems in One Day

For the last few days, when turning left or while backing out I hear a loud "pop" coming from my car, which I have no idea what it could be.

While going over speedbumps or when it's really cold outside, I hear a squeaking noise coming from my rear left wheel.

I put my car on the ramps this afternoon to check and to my surprise my car has oil seeping from the top of the pan, it looks like it coming out of the gasket.

This really sucks. I take care of the car and this happens. Everytime I get ready to mod, something always breaks.

The oil seepage has me concerned the most. Do any of you know what it could be from and what's causing the other problems?

Well, the poping sounds like it might be your posi going bad, or is bad. The oil I don't know other than pull the intake, or valve covers wherever it seems like it is comming from, and replacing gaskets. That is very wierd, I have never heard of an LS1 leaking oil.

I agree about the rear end may be bad.

Take you car to a shop and have them check it out. Most check free of charge.

I hope the rear end isn't bad. This car has only seen about 30 track passes at no more than a 1,200 RPM launch. If the rear is bad after only that then they're really as bad as some say.

I have no idea what would cause this car to leak oil. I use 5.5 qts. of 5W-30 just like the manual says and I change it between 2,000 and 2,500 miles.

I really like my car, but if this repair will cost over $1,000 my next mod will be the For Sale mod.

Lightbulb Hmmm ...

Squeaking - especially in cold weather - could be dry bushings on the LCA's.

Try spraying some silicone & see if that quiets it down.

The pop noise could be from the driveshaft - there was a service bulletin on the trucks for this condition, and it is reasonable to assume that our cars could suffer from this malady as well - mine does it.

Although, they did replace my driveshaft under warranty , and it did not solve it ...

Then again, my tranny just headed south on me @ 62K miles, with some racing under it's belt, but generally speaking I don't completely flog it every day - no smoky burnouts, no powerbraking unless at the track, etc.

Nothing but fun !

Re: 3 Problems in One Day

the 10 bolt sucks...even for the lt1's...well, they work fine for stock power, but if you replace the exhaust and intake you'll be asking for trouble on a stock rear. but for you ls1 guys...i dont even know why they didnt give a factory 8.5" or better.

replace it...you'll be better off. i'll need to replace mine soon too, so i'm looking for parts to build my own

That's pretty much what I did, which is probably around a 20HP gain. If these rears can't handle 20 more HP then they're really a POS. I hope I don't have to replace mine, I'll know Friday though.

An oil leak doesn't always occur because you didn't change the oil in the specified range...The gasket is most likely just junk, all cars will leak fluids eventully, nothing wrong with the engine, just the gasket.

Re: 3 Problems in One Day

The rear end would not be my first guess for the pop. Can someone stand outside the car while your drive it to see where the pop is coming from? Front/rear? L/R?
