241 heads P&P

I need some advice. I just got ahold of some heads for cheap (241) and I'm gonna do a little self port and polish job. I dont really know how to build them up, as far as rockers/springs/valves so i need advice on that as well as how much to machine off the intake/exhaust/chambers.

My goals for my car is about 380-400 rwhp with a not too agressive cam. If you guys could suggest a cam to go with the heads and springs/rockers that'd be great.

sell them on ebay...

put the money towards some good heads. if you don't know what you're doing, home porting can almost hurt performance as much as boost it.

or use them as a core

I agree with teke.

Also, with the right cam selection, you'll be at 380-400 rwhp without aftermarket heads.

ok.. I guess I'll send them out for CNC'ing. What should I be looking at for springs, rockers and cam? does anyone have a good guide as to what cam I should be looking for?

Re: 241 heads P&P

a decent set of ported heads, tr224 cam, bolt ons and a dyno tune should put you damn close to 400rwhp.

step up to something in the low 23x range and it should be more like 430rwhp (depending on the quality of the heads).

springs will depend on the lift of the cam. for under .600"...go with the CC918s. for more you'll have to look into some double springs probably.

stock rockers are fine

I'd ship them off to AI and get a F-13 or F-14 cam. That'll put you around 450rwhp.

F-13/14 Who makes those? sorry I'm new to all the common cams/manufacturers. I didnt want to go with too violent of a duration cam, and I want a setup that I can still drive almost daily and will last me a long time. How many miles do a good H/C setup last?

Also should I mill the heads .030? just wondering if the compression increase it worth it. And with a F-13/14 cam what springs do they reccomend, i see alot of people going with comp 918 or something.

With most aftermarket cams (well, the ones that make great power) you have to change the valvesprings every 15-20k miles. I'd mill the heads .020 to avoid PtV clearance problems. You're looking at around 11.2:1 with the stock gaskets, which is very pump-gas friendly even in humid, hot areas. The more compression, the better.

PRC Dual springs are great.

those cams are made by www.futralmotorsports.com

they are top of the game when it comes to cams for the ls1 now.

for a more street friendly setup, the f13 should do the trick, just make sure to get a good tune, both WOT and partial throttle for good drivability.

Re: 241 heads P&P

thanks guys. I'll get the dyno numbers up late this summer when i finish the project. I'm gonna have to do a little saving lol. But i should be able to afford it, then I'm gonna top it off with Ed Wright.
