Question 2002 Z28 Stats

My name is Josh. I just got a 2002 Z28 and i was woundering what kind of numbers it puts out. It is a Totaly stock six speed. I was looking for: HP, Torque (Engine or Wheels), and the 1/4 mile. Thanks in advance

Josh

Cool

Hey man...........congrats on the new Z, and welcome to the board.

Well, since you've got the 6-speed (often referred to as M6 or A4 for the auto), they take a little less engine power to turn, so your driveline losses are a bit less --- maybe 10-15% vs 15-20% for an auto. SO, while the factory rates the '98 - '02 F-bodies at 305-310 HP, we all know that most of them will usually put anywhere from ~290 to 320 HP at the wheels (depending on year and transmission) which means the motor actually puts out about ~350 HP, same as the Corvette LS1. Torque #'s are usually between 320 - 350 lb/ft I believe.

***Don't quote me though!!!***

As far as the 1/4 mile goes, as long as you know how to drive the 6-speed well, running bone-stock on street tires, you're looking at a 13.something and 100+ mph (~105 mph roughly). My car with the A4 and 2.73's only ran 14.008 @ 103 mph, but I think that's on the slow end of the scale.

Well, have fun with your new car! They truly are great cars IMO (in my opinion), and whatever you want / need to know about it, you can pretty much find out on here..............I think just about everything has been beat to death a few hundred times!!!

I just ran a new best with an 02 z28, check the sig. These cars should be low 13s unless altitude or temp is against you.

Just got mine dyno'd (check the sig). Haven't made it to the track yet- I'd be happy with low to mid 13's. There are some other some other guys here with some great '02 numbers.

In order of bang for buck:
1) Air lid (on top of air filter)
2) SFC (Sub Frame Connectors)
3) STB (Strut Tower Brace)
4) 35mm Front Sway Bar
5) Bilstein HD shocks and lowering springs of your choice.

My $.02

I'd throw in a shifter at the top of that list, along with a catback...

well, keep in mind what you want...

I want a semi plush ride and dont need more power till i get the power i have now to the ground.

So the extra noise from the lid, I can do without.

I have in my garage, a panhard rod, and some LCA's.. Again, great parts and I loved them in my other car, but I want to keep mine smooth for a bit longer.

So, the extra stiffness, I can do without..

I may just get another airbag.. they really help on the traction plus they dont have any noticeable annoyance from the ride.
For $35 each ( you usually have to get 2 at a time so sell one to your bud) not a bad investment on a good launch..
(it goes in your right rear spring)

When i do start to put on the mods, I would focus as above on the traction side of it.. I dont know about you all, but I can break them loose even with drag radials so I think thats where I need to focus on.
