2002 camaro "recall"

i got a letter from GM awhile back saying that they were recalling the 2002 camaros (and i would imagine firebirds) because of a catalytic converter problem. I've had this issue with my car for a long time now, almost as long as i've had it, where it makes this annoying "grinding" noise at low rpms. the sound became much louder when i got my cat-back exhaust system installed. I am really hoping that the culprit is the catalytic converter, because if it is, then it gets fixed for free.

can anyone else confirm the same problem on their car? and also, has anyone already taken their car to get fixed with the same letter from GM?

thanks for the help.

I had that problem w/ my 2000 after I REALLY got on it a couple times. Loose 'stone' in the cat converter. (the honeycomb cat converting element comes loose doe to heat -I believe) That loose 'stone' will effect the emissions and catylist conversions. I don't remember getting a notice about it, but my car is a 2000....

it wasnt just 2002's that got the notice. i have a '00 and got it but dont have cats and i know a few others with various 4th gens that received it.

they sat "its not a recall, however if you have a problem bring it in" it was a hit or miss problem

How many times do I have to state that this IS NOT A RECALL!

It is a customer satisfaction program, and is only addressed if the concern is present.

If your concern is not related to the converters, expect to pay for them just to look at it and tell you its not related.

I had mine replaced a couple weeks ago...

At first, I didnt know where the paper was (in my glove box) so I had to argue with their service advisor and finally got his boss involved..

In the end, I have a new cat on the car and a cracked console..

just an FYI recalls are safety related problems which could cause possible injuries the converter notice is called a service news letter.alot of times you could get a letter in the mail but never have the problem but if you do have issue and car is within warrenty it will be fixed for free/some dealers will try to find other problems with your car to make you pay for something while your car is there but you can deny any other repairs to your car-other dealers will only fix what you bring it in for and overlook any other problem you may have
