2001 LS-1 z28 hardtop 6 speed 74,551
Ls-1ers yo now what can all ya say regarding my 1st ls-1 car.
i had an lt-1 for awhile back not long, actualy drove and repaired an 89 5.0 for 15 years still got it w/ 240,000 miles engine never apart.
Car still goin, i'm hoping this ls-1 is as durable my 5.0 was stock is stock 5 speed 273 to 1 gears stock.
tranny t-5 was rebuilt at 217,000 miles.
ive driven it pretty hard daily driver.
bone stock.
now i know its 10 years old looks new,
midnight metalic blue, monsoon 12 cd changer passed smog all orig.
what type of issues can i look for?
example engine , transmission t-56, rear end ect.
i hear the engine is far and away best g.m. v8?
repairs harder? frequency of repairs?
weak components?
awsome car lotta bang . h.p. looks bigger than 5.0.
Any and all info comments, advise, opinions recomendations apreciated
thanx

Mine has been pretty reliable. Don't expect the rear to hold up to launching with slicks though. 6 speed cars are pretty hard on the 10 bolt rears due to shock, just don't be stupid with it and it should stay together. Wheel hop is another killer of 10 bolts.
A lot of people end up putting 4.10's in and then blow them up, in all reality 3.73's are probably the deepest gears you'd want to run imo. The pinion gear gets smaller as you go numerically higher. Other than that, the ls1 m6 cars are pretty beastly for roll racing and highway runs which is usually 95% of what you will probably run into.
LS1's do respond well to bolt ons and a tune. The 2001-2002 years already come with an LS6 intake, so no need to worry about that. A good start would be an (air) lid, ported t/b, short throw shifter, exhaust and a tune.
