2001 6-speed z28
2001 6-speed z28
im thinking about buying a 2001 6-speed z28 pewter with black leather t-tops the works fully loaded...i now have a 95 z with a few mods that runs an amazing and somewhat consistant 8.57. im just curious if that 6-speed z will be anything close to that being bone stock with a good driver?
thanks for your time,
steve

A 8.57 in the 1/8th would be in the neighborhood of low 13s. Given it's a 2001 6 speed, it could possibly break into the 12's. 2001 and 2002 6 speed LS1 cars have a pretty good chance of breaking into the 12s. Mine was one of the lucky ones
Go with the LS1, you'll love it!

With DRs, a bone stock LS1 should be able to get an 8.5x, no problem.
On street tires, it depends on how well you can get it to hook. A low 2.1 60' or better should do it.
Also depends on how strong that particular LS1 is.

Basically, do some of the same mods to an LS1 that you've done to your LT1, and you'll have a mid-high 12 second car
.
I say if you're in a position to get an LS1, get it
............IMO, you won't regret it, even if it only runs the same in the 1/8th initially. The LS1 has SO MUCH potential, and unless you really like having an automatic, you'd probably be happier switching to the 6-speed

yea bro i heard so much about LS1's and after test driving my buds i decided to go buy one of my own, i love it so much. They dont got much power down low stock but there huge heads really breath at higher RPM's its like a turbo.
good luck
good luck
They have good power down low, you just don't feel like until higher rpms. LS1 loves RPM. That's one big reason why a big stall (3000+) makes such a difference, it plants you right in the powerband, and very quick
If you go with the manual, be easy on your launches. Even with a bone stock LS1, people have been known to break their factory 10 bolts with a launch too hard. Automatics are more forgiving, so you'd be okay to launch a bit harder
Any year LS1 will be fine. The only thing that should hold you back is mileage, engine/drivetrain condition, and overall condition of the vehicle. Most everybody who is on a site like this will be modding their car anyway, so if you do plan on modding the hell out of it, don't worry about what year has a bit more power over the others anyway. Be careful and have fun
