how about this 99 SS?

i've found a 1999 camaro SS locally that they will sell for 15500 ... has 42.5k miles on the clock, looks stock and unmolested except for an SLP lid. it has no SLP options, just a base model SS.

there are only two problems with the car. it tracks a little bit to the right and the tranny is leaking fluid where the driveshaft goes in.

the tracking to the right is most likely alignment, but how difficult is it to fix a leak at the end of the tranny? its a A4 btw.

they said they would look at it and fix it if necessary.

I'd go for it. It can't be too hard to fix a tranny leak.

If it makes you feel any better I have a 99 SS, the trans leaked when I got it, the dealer fixed it under warranty. It was the rear tailshaft seal. I have another friend with a 2000 SS and it had the same problem, also got taken care of by warranty.

I would require the dealer (assuming you are buying it from a dealer) to fix it, as well as the alignment, before committing to anything.

$15.5 is definetely on the high side (depends on your area, of course...), so the fixes should be included in the price.

I would try to get them to lower the price since it has those two problems. I would go for the car though.

Seems like a good price, I paid 13k for my Z28 with all the options with similar mileage, and SS adds about 2K to the price. Take the car to a shop to figure out what is wrong with the transmission, and make a decision about the car from there.
If the transmission checks out as nothing major, and you really like the car GO FOR IT

i like how though, if you try and sell your car it comes up as a Z28 and then when they sell it' it's got the sport option. Dealers suck man, they don't know what's up.

I purchased my '99 SS last July for $14,300 (that is what he owed on it & would not take less) with 58,000 mi. I am the 4th owner of the car & it is a base SS.

i think i'm going to pass up on this one...

leaky tranny is kind of interesting, plus the price they want (16.5k out the door) is a bit high i think and will require me to take out a slightly larger loan than i can afford at this time

if they'd do 15.5k out the door i'd hit it, but i don't think they would

Glad you passed on the car...that price is a little high. There are deals out there, just gotta find 'em. You'll thank yourself if you wait to find the right deal instead of just jumping on one.

I know its risky, but I would really check out ebay for one.

My dad got his car off Ebay...

He got his car in December of 2002. I'm not sure if you're familar w/his car or not, but its a 2000 SS Convertible with every GM and SLP option except chrome wheels.

The mileage on the car at the time he bought it was 18,000 miles.

He got the car for $17,600

You can find deals like that if you're just patient. If you want me to head to the dealership w/you the next time you look at a car, let me know...I always OWN those guys, and its a blast for me.

I got ended up paying $21,300 for my car brand new from Bill Heard Chevrolet. I think I'm one of the few people in America that actually enjoys battling it out w/sales managers.

Good Luck,
-Dan

I often wonder when people say things like every GM and SLP option. Anyone know where there is a list of all the SLP options? I remember hearing on some auto show about how they went crazy in the last couple years and you could order off a huge SLP list at your dealer, including a $35,000 engine option.

In my car it was the trans output seal that was leaking, not a hard fix, nor expensive. Alignment or tires maybe

I bought my 98 Z with 37600 on the clock for 12500 out the door
I would try to get them down some
