The 1LE package was first offered in '88. From '88-'92, the 1LE cars were basically stripper cars, with most of the WS6 suspension package, plus specific shocks. The big part of the option was really the big brakes. The early cars also had an 18 gallon tank in place of the 15.5 gallon tank and a swinging pickup to help prevent fuel starvation when road racing (which is what this option was intended for). Technically, all 1555 '89 Turbo Trans Am's were 1LE cars with a loaded interior and T-tops were offered.

'93 had the same springs as the base Z28. It also had a 32mm front bar, and a 21mm rear bar (this was the only year for the 1LE rear bar on GM built 1LE's). Most of the suspension bushings were replaced with higher durometer rubber bushings. Brakes on all fourthgen 1LE's are the same as the base Z28 of the year. The '93'-'99 1LE's were "stripper" cars.

'94-'95 were almost the same as the '93, except they had the stiffer 1LE springs and the same 19mm rear bar that all V8 F-bodies of the time had.

In '96 air conditioning became standard on all F-bodies, including the 1LE. This was also the first year that the "special" DeCarbon shocks were replaced with Koni double adjustable shocks.

The '97's had new tail lights and interior, but nothing that was 1LE specific changed from '96.

For '98-'99, the suspension was the same as the '97's. This of course was the first year for the LS1 and the different front end.

There were no 2000 1LE's built.

SLP brought back the 1LE option on the SS and Firehawk. It was basically the same as the '99's except they substituted a 35mm front bar and a 25mm rear bar.

Thanks. I have been studying them for a long time, and owned a '98 1LE Z28 for a few years (and regret selling it). I also own 1le.net
