I'm no 1LE expert but I know a little and have seen some. Just last week a guy from cofba.org helped me put on my BMR SFR's and he had a 98-00 (can't rember) Firebird with the 1LE package. Also I met a guy when I was stationed in NJ who had the rarest 1LE ever. I can't rember the year, but it was a 3rd gen, yellow, and from the factory had NO cats. It has a special sticker under the hood saying no cats. It was never ment to be sold.. some GM VP had it and accidently sold it to a dealer.. the dealer had no clue and this guy got it... It's been in some magizines and stuff I've seen.. I met him at Atco in NJ.

Dead give aways are

1. non power windows (crank up, saves weight)
2. AC delete (no AC, again saves weight)

also note:
3. only comes in hard tops
4. almost no options.. they are bare bone.

Thoes are really the only "walk up and see" ways of telling.

I'm not sure how the 1LE differs throughout the years, but I know in my year, 01, chevy stopped making 1LE camaros, but SLP offered it as a second sticker option for SS's. My car has power windows and AC, but then again, the 1LE option wasn't put on by chevy.

It's all suspension upgrades I believe...

I believe 1LE is an RPO code. It generally means a stronger 1LE driveshaft, springs and I think a few other small things. Nothing major.

man..

you guys are almost killing me here..

1le for the ls1 cars didnt mean much..

they all had AC no matter what
it's a stripped down car, no power or anything.. cloth seats, no fog lights.. the larger sway bars and better shocks and springs like the ws6 and SS.. Alum driveshaft was the same as the other ls1 alum driveshafts

I have a 2001 SS with the 1LE suspension package, with a/c, leather/ power, and every other option. It was a second sticker option from SLP engineering. It comes with stiffer springs, koni adjustable shocks, larger sway bars, stronger LCA's, and sportier bushings. Maybe a new driveshaft loop. Thats about it, not much to it.
