If you go gears with the A4 then go 3.42's at the most! 3.23's with a 3200 stall will do the trick....let the stall do the work! and with 3.23's the stall will work its *** off for you and when you are on the highway the revs won't be high!

Pete,
You are right. Gears will net him about 2-3 tenths....if he can get traction. Not 12s by themselves , but with one or two more well thought out mods then all will be fine.

Same boat here, I am looking for 12's also. I ran a 13.2 @ 106 when my car was bone stock. I wanted to be in the 12's so bad I called SLP the next week and order a lid, MAF, ATM, and a cat-back (loudmouth). From that I was only able to find 2 tenths -It is here that I encountered my newest enemy! TRACTION!!! My car now traps 110 mph cosistantly but more times than not I leave the line spinning. I can no longer get any better than a 2.1 60 ft. time either. I would deffinatly recommend a set of Nitto's or BFG DR's and aside from that cash in on all the "free mods" like the MAF de-screen, free ram air mod and and TB bypass, those are good for a couple extra horses.

Oh, and on the sounding stock thing, I dont think a cat back would hurt- since everyone and thier brother has that and a K&N, most people dont even consider those to be mods anymore!

Thanks for all the info, I will have to see how many of these things I can accomplish, With mortgages and all. As long as I can continue to SPANK my cousin's 4.6 Slowstang (Why do so many people buy these DOGS?) I will be content. Where can I find out how to do the TB bypass? Wil this affect Mileage, drivability etc?
Thanks all, TV

Don't worry, the 'Stang has a LONG way to go to beat an LS1!! I'm not sure what they usually run, but I know the best I've seen so far at the track is 14.1 out of a 5-speed 4.6L 'Stang. Also, a guy at work ran his '99 GT and went 14.5 @ ~95 mph.

--->Throttle Body Bypass<---

Also, a whole bunch of other cool mods @ InstallUniversity.com .

You have nothing whatsoever to worry about unless he has plenty of mods.

Why people buy them? My friend has a 00 GT Convertible and it is very nice. Wouldn't necessarily buy one (Maybe as a daily driver, though...), but they are nice. Especially the way they sound, even bone stock.

It's good to know about the 2:73's, I would like to keep them as i do alot of highway driving and I like the gas mileage. I probably can't make M8, but you never know.

If you have to ask those questions then leave it alone.
Its a very minimal gain and some have experienced problems with it.
Seek other mods is my opinion.

I agree............leave the MAF screen alone. There's hardly a measureable gain IMO, and besides, incase something gets past the air filter, it's like a last line of defence. Apparently the problem that removing the screen will create is that the air flow across the sensing wires isn't "controlled" or properly directed (please don't quote me here?! ) and the MAF won't give 100% accurate readings.

There are many different mods that you can do to achieve 12's, and I don't think that any of the "free mods" are gonna do it............I hate to say that, but I'm in the same boat myself, and I've accepted the fact that to go faster costs MONEY!!!! Get yourself some tires, and then some type of power adder, whether it be additional traction devices, a torque converter, exhaust, a cam, or even N2O. Now that you've got a case of the "I wanna go faster"'s, it's time to pull out the cheque book!!!!

Darn it. I'm going heads/cam this winter. Guess I should be saving for a 12 bolt and a tranny build-up
