Unhappy ‘00 z28 no ASR ?!!

This regarding the acceleration slip regulation (ASR).

My A4 z28 is model 2000. I am curios and concern why my car is not all equipped with this type of gadget ASR.

If the aim of this ASR is somewhat to regulate or stabilize the car while turning in high speed...., why I don’t have it ??? are there restriction in using this ASR for cars in the U.S., Canada, European countries and ME (middle east region).

Are you the first owner of the car?

If my memory serves me correct, ASR was just another option, so it did not automatically come with the car.

Ahhh, I would be kinda thankfull if I were you. Whenever you turn the car on, it is automatically activated unless you buy like a 65$ piece to plug into it. It doesnt exactly do a whole lot for handeling.

ASR has nothing to do with turning at high speeds. ASR is traction control, and a lot of people see it as a nuisance.

100% Correct.

My car didn't come with ASR, and I am thankful for that everytime I drive it.

its simply traction control for straight lines.. It may help in the turns a little, but its really meant for straight lines, since it doesn't take in consideration what happens if you let off the power in the middle of the turn.

Doesn't do anything for handling, in fact probably will make you slower since it'll cut back the throttle when you power out of a turn.

One bright side of ASR equipped cars.. If you ever need a beefier rear end, you can get a Ford 9" rear with 4 channel ABS and keep your abs operation..

There's no 3-channel ABS setup for the Ford 9" rear, supposidly because there is not enough room in the center section to mount the reluctor ring..

It sounds like you thought the ASR was like the "stability control" that some high end vehicles have, such as BMW's, etc. But it's not. Like the others guys are saying, it's just as well that you don't have it, since it can be annoying sometimes. I don't have it, but my friend who does, says he always turns it off when he starts his car up........................you know, sometimes you just feel like doing a smoke show and you don't need the computer trying to stop you!!

Wink

Kind of funny to see so many people complaining about the ASR.

It has a switch to turn it off when ever you like. Am I missing something...?

My SS came equipped with ASR. In normal driving, I don't even notice it. However, it's annoying when you try to bang gears and the car falls on its face. I'm already in the habit of turning it off every time I get in the car. The only time I have seen that it interferes with cornering is when you try to give throttle while turning. It will fight you and helps keep the car's *** end from stepping out (because it's detecting wheel spin...but it's not an active handling system). If you're new to these cars, it may be of some use...otherwise, it's just a pita.

all it does it, when it feels tire slip, it SLIGHTLY hits the breaks, and makes you, no matter how hard pushed the gass pedal up... i leave it on normally... just turn it off at track.... its all a mind game for me, its the, "dont kill your tires button because your bored type thing"

"It" doesn't apply the brakes. It pulls the throttle cable back - that's why you feel the pedal pushing back against your foot when ASR is activated.
