Z28 questions before I buy
Z28 questions before I buy
Whats up all!
This is my first thread on this forum.
I am looking at a 96 Z28. I am not knowledgeable on newer camaros so I have a few questions. First Is there anything about 96 camaros that would make them more or less desireable than other years?
Also the car has been worked over....It has a lopey cam. and the owner is claiming that the bottom end has been converted the a 383 stroker...can you do that with the LT1?
My last question is the tranny is an automatic and has the B&M shift kit installed......It really makes the car vibrate especially in 3rd gear...is that normal or should I be looking for tranny problems?
I appreciate any feedback....I don't want to buy a lemon!

Re: Z28 questions before I buy
When you say you are knowledgable about newer camaros, I am assuming you are speaking of the LS1s which from the factory are faster than the LT1s in the 93-97s. As for the body though, they are essentially the same. It is possible to do a 383 stroker out of an LT1 block with the help of a die grinder in some spots.
As for the vibration in 3rd gear, it may not necessarily be the trans., but maybe the driveshaft or some other ailment.
Finally, as for buying a lemon, please realize you are buying a cammed, stroker car so whenever you start modifications, reliability is sacrificed. Look the car over well before buying and good luck.

Re: Z28 questions before I buy
Honestly I wouldn't buy a car that has been modified that much, it was probably beaten on and will give you problems. The transmission shakes? Is this 6 speed car? I know you said shift kit but maybe the seller doesn't know what he's talking about and thinks you can put a shift kit in a 6 speed.
