Hey Freefallin, maybe you should do a little more research on these cars so you don't end up with something you don't want. You came to the right place to start. Don't be offended, but some of us will find it hard to believe that you could drive a car and hear it run and not know if it has a 6 or 8 cylinder. I'm saing this because I had a buddy that bought a 91 RS before I met him, and he was disappointed to find he didn't have the motor that others had. He thought his was the same because it looked the same. Anyway, good luck and welcome.

Isn't there also a VIN you can check somewhere around where the block and tranny meet also to be sure that the engine and body were an original pair?

I agree. DO some more searchin' around, find out what to look for, and make sure you find out the story behind the car. There are many dead giveaways to determine if it's a Z28 or not. First, find the RPO sticker on the end of the driver's door, both the "Z28" and "LT1" codes should be listed. Or you could just look under the hood. As a '94, if it's a V6, its the 3.4, and if it is, the intake manifold should be horseshoe shaped and say "3.4 SFI" right on top. If its a V8, the intake manifold just looks like a rectangle with about 4 or 5 fins running on the top of it. The easiest and quickest way to tell though, should be exhaust. If you can't tell the difference between a V6 and V8 by sound immediately, you need to study up a little more. Good thing is, you've found a great place to start learning . Good luck, and I hope you soon join the ranks of F-Body owners.

freefallin either is getting some post New Year's partying in or equally likely to have been impaled by the forum jaws.

That's a doozy, I bet.

Re: Z28 or not?

I met a kid one time around town and saw he had Z28 badges. I offered to help him out if he ever needed work done to his Z. He then explained it was a V6 Z28. I was thinking -What?- So I check around, 110mph speedo, Z28 catback and tips, z28 badges and under the hood a V6. I told him either the person he bought it off of added Z28 stuff or it was a Z28 and he swapped motors/tranny's. The kid then proceeded to tell me the story that was told to him by the previous owner that he special ordered a Z28 without the V8. At that point I just let him believe whatever he wanted.

Re: Z28 or not?

I dont have much to add but FYI I had 110mph gauge, 2-3-D No on A4 center console, etc, and some granny gears. Just count the spark plugs. You can just look at the motor with ease and know for sure.

Kinda like the Pony Package Ford had for thier V6's the other year. I wouldve thrown the BS flag though because thier is no way a company is going to put z28 on a non z28 car. That's like false advertisment.

Yea, at the point he started with the story I stopped my interrogation since I felt like I was going to make him cry.

You might want to read his post. He never said he didn't know if it had a V8 or V6. He simply said he was suspicious because it had no emblems and the speedo only went to 110mph.

it looked to me like he was suspicious if it was actually a v8 or a v6, bc the guy said it was a z28 but it had no emblems and a 110 speedo.

by the way.. Bersaglieri.. that sucks for that kid. he got ripped off BADLY, i'd cry if that happened to me.. good thing you didnt tell him, he would have cried for sure... anyone want to buy my limited edition Corvette that looks like a Z28? chevy only made one.. $30000, any takers?
