y-pipe fabrication question?

Just got my headers and everything in..people are saying to get the ypipe fabricated so i don't have problems w/ emmisions..will this hinder performace? what exactly do they do to fabricate it and ruffly how much is it? thanks

Why not get a hooker Y pipe for $200. It doesn't have cat's though.

Visually NO, because you're supposed to have cat's in place. If you have to do a sniffer test though, chances are the car would still pass because these engines burn so clean anyways. If anyone disagrees with this, then explain how my '81 w/383 failed a sniffer test, then failed worse when I put a pair of catalytics on it?! They don't do $h!t IMO.
