wipers

interesting windshield wiper problem. They work fine and all, except for the fact that when i shut them off, they stay in the up position. if i manually put them down they go right back up. im a little confused on this one.
any ideas????

Re: wipers

Im going to bring this back to the top because mine started doing this today. When I turn them off they go up and stop in the up position, almost like the circuit reversed itself.

Searched some more and it appears I will just have to replace the motor.

Re: wipers

Mine did the exact same thing about 3 months ago. Sounds like it is time to replace the motor. It is not a difficult job at all, but a couple bits of advice for you. First, get a battery terminal puller (got one at NAPA for $20 or so) to get the wiper arms off. It makes it very easy to get them off and will prevent you from cracking the windshield. Second, the arms that connect to the motor and to the drivers side wiper gear should just pop off by using a big screwdriver. When you put them back together, make sure they pop twice (I used a pair of vice grips to do this). It will take quite a bit of pressure, but will save you from having to tear the whole thing apart again. Good luck.

Matt has some very good advice on this. I believe when your wipers wont go back down because the circuit board in the motor is bad. I've heard you can just swap the boards but its easier to just swap motors. If you ask me messing with the wipers is a total PITA. You have to make sure the little rubber mounts for the motor get firmly into place or the motor will rock back and forth at high speeds and cause your wipers to hit the cowl.

Re: wipers

I have the same thing happening. I got a new motor controller (I think this is the problem) but never put it on. Pulling the wiper arms just seems like a real pain in the *ss.
