Wiper arm removal rant

I've been trying to repair the windshield wiper washers. The fluid leaks out from under the cowling. Bought all new hose and connector. Tried a battery terminal puller, and just bent the handle on it. I then bought an OTC 4676 windshield wiper arm puller. It looks like it will do the trick. Well, it won't fit properly. I modify it by doing some grinding on it. I get it to where it fits properly. I begin turning the ****, and as it begins to pull, the damned **** you turn to exert the pressure on the spindle comes off. Frustrating.

How do you get these #$&@ arms off?

What car is it for. if the 4th gens are like my 3rd gen. then there is a flat retainer you have to pull out first, then you pull the arm off. It looks like a U, and fits right under where the arm connects. How else do you figure they always stay on lol.

It's a '96 Firebird. There's a nut that screws down on top of the arm.

check to make sure that is does not indeed have a clip on the bottom. not really easy to see. Only reason that you shouldn't be able to pop it right off with you hands

I let them soak overnight in PB Blaster, then put some Liquid Wrench on them a few minutes before trying to remove them. Can't get the **** back on the puller.

The end the **** goes on is splayed. It's larger than the opening in the ****. I don't know for sure, but I'd guess when the **** is put on in the manufacturing process, that it is warm enough to stretch over the end, and when it cools it contracts. There is a slot in the end of the rod the **** goes on, like a notch for a screwdriver. I've thought about using some large pliers and closing it up some, then putting some super glue on it and forcing the **** back on. Not sure the glue will hold.

you know they make a wiper arm puller tool for about 10 bucks. its worth for risk of cracking your windshield.
there's no clip, just the bolt on top, they are just really snug!

If you read my first post, you'll see I bought one of those. It did not fit. When I got it to where it would fit, the **** came off.

ahhh sorry about that,...

my wiper bolt is slightly indented on the top so the round part of the puller fit snug.
