Windshield Mark (not crack/chip)
Windshield Mark (not crack/chip)
Howdy,
When i bought my 97 z28 in late october it was a damn clean car for a Daily Driven (except in winter) 89,000mile car. The only noticeable problem im still trying to figure out is on the drivers side portion of the windshield there is a mark from the bottom to the top of the windshield where the wiper runs (curves exactly like the windshield wiper moves) and its not deep, its just on the surface...its like a rubber wiper blade heated up and left a mark on the windshield...i figured i could just rub it off, not true. I heated it up and rubbed it with a rag for about 5 minutes and nothing happened. Does anyone have any ideas on what this could be or how to remove it inexpensively? I can post pictures of it if ya'll need them. I don't have the money to replace a windshield right now, so im hoping theres some way to have it taken off.
Thanks in advance for help/suggestions,
Dave

Re: Windshield Mark (not crack/chip)
Most insurances will cover any windshield damage without deductible. Just suggesting because ive heard of someone who did this when they had some wiper scratches on their windshield, they whipped a rock at it and took it to a window repair and got a new windshield for free.
Re: Windshield Mark (not crack/chip)
eh i don't feel like whippin a rock at my windshield then the insurance company sayin my $1000 deductable covers the cost of the windshield...ill just take it up to them with the marks on the windshield and see what they say. It's right in my line of sight so maybe they would fix it for free since it could be a safety hazard (haven't driven the car a whole lot since i bought it...only about 1500miles)
Any Other Ideas?

Re: Windshield Mark (not crack/chip)
You might try some Bon Ami mixed to a wet paste and rub in a circular motion with cheese cloth. If its on the suface that sould take it off, don't rub to hard and keep it moist.
Re: Windshield Mark (not crack/chip)
Excellent suggestion, but you have to use the right Bon Ami product.
Use: The Original Bon Ami Cleaning Powder
Do NOT use: Bon Ami Kitchen and Bath Cleanser

If that fails there are kits to polish the glass - a felt wheel and abrasive powder - available from JC Whitney or The Eastwood Company. Both have web sites. These kits require a polisher that runs at 1400 rpm, and they are very labor intensive. Requires some dollar investment and a lot of patience.

Re: Windshield Mark (not crack/chip)
9C1 good catch,I didn't know they switched the make-up of their product. The can I have is from the early 70's and cleaning the windsheild is the only thing I've used it for. It takes very little so the can has lasted a long time for me,and is getting low so this is info well appreciated.
Re: Windshield Mark (not crack/chip)
It's a white mark...not even a gouge or anything...i rubbed my finger across it and it doesn't go into the glass or anything, its just on the surface. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow if its not foggy like it is now.

Re: Windshield Mark (not crack/chip)
I have the same mark on my TA, but mine is actually etched into the glass. If yours is merely a surface scratch, you should be able to buff/polish it out. It's worth a shot since these windshields aren't cheap.
