Will taking off the airbag cause my car to die?

So my new steering wheels FINALLY showed up today, so me and my dad got to work on it. We ended up breaking the wire coil for the airbag that allows the wheel to turn and the wire not break over time. Anyway, after we got it all on I went to take a drive aronud the block to see how it feels. When I was breaking the car felt like it wanted to keep going and when I got back to my house and pulled in the driveway it just died and the SES light came on. Could this have something to do with me taking off the airbag or just that I havn't been driving it much the last 2 months? Please help!

If you had the battery disconnected, the computer is probably still trying to relearn. The air bag should have nothing to do with engine performance. If it is a relearn thing, the more you normally drive it, the better it will get.

Alright, I think that is the problem. We had the battery unhooked for over an hour and a half.

You broke the clockspring? Thats good and unsafe to drive around in, I suggest fixing it if you want the airbag to work correctly, I'm sure it's possible for it to go off when it wants to without the clockspring. You will have an AIR BAG light forever too.

There's no airbag on it any more that needs to work properly. I didn't take it off, my dad did. After he broke it he found out how to take it off without breaking it.

Here is a picture of it:
