Why would my power seat stop working?

I go out to my car this morning, wife was the last one to drive the car. So I start positioning the seat back with the button enough for me to get comfortable, start the car, then go to make some seat adjustments and none of them work at all. No noise, nothing.

When I shut the car off again (I only had to move the car around to the back of the house) the seat still didn't work.

What gives?

Re: Why would my power seat stop working?

i don't know id start with the basics switches, power supply, elec. motor

it may even be possible that the battery was low and needed a drive to bring it back up.... at least that is what i am hoping because my trunk release didnt work for a while until after i made a 20 min drive

I agree with below... Check your connections like wire harness etc. and also your relays and or fuses.

Does your rear defogger work? Believe it's on the same circuit. Maybe the relay was replaced with a fuse and it just blew.

Ding Ding Ding! I think we have a winner here!

I was actually going to start another thread as to why my rear defogger doesn't stay on any longer than a few minutes. Once it shuts off it won't come back on till I'm not sure when because I never stuck around in the car to time it.

This has been a problem for a few years but I hardly ever use the rear defogger so I didn't look at it that much.

That's most likely a different problem- my defroster has the same problem but my seat works. I've heard using the defroster a few cycles in a row would heat up the contacts in the fuse block so much that it effects the ability of the contacts to transfer the current. Our contacts are no longer as efficient at transmitting the electricity through, so they heat up in 3 minutes versus 10 and cause the breaker to shut off. It will not work until everything comes below temperature... even then only for another few minutes.

If you swap the breaker out with a fuse it will allow things to get too hot and melt the plastic on your fuse block slightly. The only real solution is supposed to be replacing the contacts in the block and replacing the breaker with a new one. I have not tried it on mine yet though it sounds reasonable enough.

Let us know if you find something else that fixes it- thanks!

Well then it must have been just a coincedence then.

My seat always worked no matter what, and that makes sense what you said about rhe defroster. But it certainly doesn't stay on long!

Defogger is supposed to shut itself off at about 10 min, I've reset mine on rare occasions and it always comes back on immediately. To just check the seat you can temporarily pop a 30 AMP fuse in there, or swap with another relay.

Re: Why would my power seat stop working?

My rear deffrost definitely doesn't work for 10 mins, and when it shuts off it takes long enough that I never been able to push it back on unless i leave the car.

I get home from work today, hop in, seat works like a charm.wtf?

Re: Why would my power seat stop working?

Well, mine was doing that and i threw in a 30amp fuse to replace the breaker and haven't had a problem since. Nothing melted in the fuse box either.
