Who will win??

I know you've probably gotten a few of these posted before.... But i hope you'll chime in a "knowledge based" response and help me make some money this weekend.

00 GT 5spd of course :
ATI Procharged 8lbs "i believe" "A-A intercooler"
Longtubes, Underdrives, 3:73's "the usual Mustang crap"
O/R Mid and MAC Cat-back, I think it dyno'd around 400rwhp.

01 Z28 "Auto":
Pace Setters, O/R Y-Pipe, Borla Cat-back, 3:73's "i'm told"
Decent size cam, "not sure of specs" Nice lopey lope though...
No head work just most of the usual bolt on LS1 crap.

CLOSED COURSE country road.... Which one will win??

Re: Who will win??

This is a timed race? Or a race through the twisties with passing allowed??

Sounds like a driver's race more than anything?

Re: Who will win??

I would think the Procharged Stang would have traction probs. coming out of the corners. But then again I don't know his tires and suspension mods.

Re: Who will win??

Hmm, I think biggest factor would come down to exactly what cam the LS1 had. The LS1 could be up around the same power level as the Stang, but with an auto it's more likely to be down some 25+ rwhp. Then again a slightly less aggressive cam or a not so perfect tune and it could be giving up some more rwhp from there too. You don't mention a stall either, I would assume it has one which would be a plus for a standing start race and help remove some of the 5spd vs auto bit.

To top it off you don't know the exact rwhp on the Stang it sounds like, I'd make allowances for it to be making a little more power if I were betting.

Given equal driving I'd be hesitant to put money on a winner, but I'll take a stab and go w/ the Stang if it's really 400+ rwhp vs a unknown cam, unknown stall auto LS1... HOWEVER drivers are rarely equal, if it's a stalled auto and both are running equal tires the auto LS1 may get out of the hole in front and should theoretically be easier to run to a good time consistently, and so it may hold off the Stang. Dang, I can't actually say I'd be real happy putting money on the line without knowing more of the details of each car, I'm still leaning toward the Stang though seeing as I'm banking on it having more power. Driven well I think it can win...

Re: Who will win??

That's a tough call. The stang more than likely is 200 lbs lighter than the F-body. My 00 GT weighed 3250 lbs in street trim, my 00 TA weighs 3500 even.

I would go for a best 2 outta 3 or 3 outta 5 race. Those 2valve modulars have been known to get clostraphobic rods with 400 RWHP and a blower on a stock SB. The T45 trannies also aren't the strongest in the world. The stang might break in the end giving the F-bod the win.

Both cars holding together okay and both having at least drag radials, I'm gonna have to go with the stang though.

Re: Who will win??

You can see how this would be a pretty tough decision.
It's just a friendly wager between friends though.... None of that "ricer smack talk" or any B.S. like that. $20 bucks and a meal at "Jack" is all that's on the table here.

I'm pretty sure the Z has a decent size stall in it. Heard it in town today.... i'd say somewhere in the 2500-3000 range.

Sounded nice...
