Exhaust size to get
Exhaust size to get
Hey yall
I still haven't gotten a strait answer, maybe this section will be better.
I'm gonna be puttin a cutout on my 95 z28, but the only sizes are 2.5" and 3".....i'm not really sure which one o go with.
Also I think i'm gonna lose the cat, and put in a strait pipe with the cutout.
So I just need to determine which size to go with - small or big.
Thanks

Future mods are just a CAI, bigger TB, and short throw...nothing serious.

Ya, 3" will be more than enough. Start with a catback of your choice, or bolt up a whole new exhaust altogether. I wont give my suggestions because then the opinions go for days.

Just basically takin out the cat...fillin in the section with a 3" pipe I guess and then fitting up the Y-pipe for the cutout where the strait pipe is.
Is this a good location for the cutout?
Re: Exhaust size to get
stock pipe diameter is 2.75"....so you wouldn't want to put a smaller diameter cutout in...
so 3"
and putting the cutout right under the front seats is not going to be very enjoyable, unless you plan to use it ONLY at the track. a better place is about 3ft back just before the I-pipe goes up over the axle. there is even a small indentation that allows the cutout to tuck up nicely.
personally i would pull the cat, put a piece of 3" straight tubing from the end of the Ypipe, back to a cutout. and then the stock pipe from there to the muffler.
that way when the cutout is open you get full effect of the 3" cutout. and it's less welding than putting a pipe in for the cat and then a cutout 2ft behind it...ie...cheaper. 3" tubing is cheap

Re: Exhaust size to get
not so much that, it's the location being farther away from the passenger. having it roar right under your feet and reverberating off the pavement and the front seat floorboard would be horrible.
in the back it pushes the sound out away from you more and there is more to insulated the sound....less floor board space, gas tank, seats etc...
