Ok I have a 1995 Z28 and my A/C keeps cutting off.

I just bought the car last Sat. and the A/C has been working fine till yesterday.

I got in it and noticed it wasnt getting cooler in the car. Went to my grandfathers shop cause I thought it just needed some more freon.

Well they said the compressor wasnt kicking on. So this morning I took it back and they started looking for the problem. Never could find it, all the fuses, relays and circuits are working fine and getting power to everything. They jumpered the compressor and it came on, so we knew it was good but couldnt figure out why it wont come on when I try to turn it on in the car.

So we disconnected the battery and let the computer reset. Hooked it all back up and started the car. The A/C came on and worked for a few hours and has stopped again.

About to take it back to them to try and hunt it down.

Has anyone ran into this and know whats going on and how to fix it.

If possible you need to hook it up to an a/c machine and remove all the refigerant and that will tell you if the system was low of the system is too low it will not kick on the compressor at that point put some dye in it run it for a week or two and then look for the leak. The reason it worked for a couple of hours is when you unplugged the batt it reset the values in the computer and it worked until it tripped the problem again. If the system isn't low im not real sure after that might be a computer problem. Its always a good idea to check for codes if you can.

 

The engine's computer monitors the A/C pressure and won't allow the compressor to come on if the pressure is too low. A scan tool will show you the pressure reading.

 

Ok took it back to the shop and this time the gauge read it correctly and showed it was WAY to low. Took 3 cans of freon to bring it up to full. It seemed to still be working as of last night. Havent drove the car today. Will find out if its still working today.

I go to fill my a/c while the car is running and the pressure guage on the refridgerant can says my a/c is full but it doesn't blow cold air. The a/c blows hard but just warm.
