What are YOUR temps with fan switch?

Just got an SLP fan switch, short and sweet:

In fairly cold NJ weather, 60-70 degrees outside, temps monitored with auto-xray scanner:

BEFORE
Once fully warmed up sitting in traffic 210-225 fan kicked in, got to 210 and back up again to 220-225

AFTER WITH SLP SWITCH
WIth switch on LOW it keeps temps at 205-210 at most in traffic.
With switch on HIGH (you can easily hear the fans running hard) temps are 200 at most in traffic, somtimes 193.something

This sounds normal to me but I know nothing What do you guys read?

Thanks for any input

I forgot to see what thermostat you have, but with a 160 stat and fan switch the temperature will usually stay around 160-170. If it's 90 degrees out with the air conditioning on it'll crep up to 195 or so. I have the ECM programmed now, so they automatically come on at 170.

Re: What are YOUR temps with fan switch?

With a 170 fail safe stat and Jet fan switch my temps are in the 170 range all the time.

Forgot to mention, running the stock stat......have a 160 to install, think that would lower my temps even more?

If you put in the lower stat in, yes it will lower your temps down from the stock stat.

Fuels94ta: No, it will not lower your temperatures. Your not going to be running any colder then the thermo in 99.9% of the cases out there.

IE: 180 thermostat, car is running 200 degrees. Put in a 160 thermostat, guess what, it's still going to run 200 degrees because both thermos are going to be fully open. Without a fan switch, your not going to cool the car enough to utilize a 160 thermostat.

He is saying with the fan switch on top of the 160 stat, not just the stat. I know it won't work by itself.

Re: What are YOUR temps with fan switch?

Just a small update, it was 55 degrees this morning, left the fans off and it got up to 228, fan (i dont even think the high fan, just low) went on and it went to 210, that is when I turned on HIGH on the SLP switch, back down to 200 in traffic and 180-190 cruising. There is also a noticable difference in the way the car runs when I have the fans on HIGH and the temps are lower especially going off the line. Once I put in the 160 stat on top of the fan switch I will update the temps. Thanks for the input guys

Re: What are YOUR temps with fan switch?

well the stock lt1 stat is around 195...so even with the fans i high the temps shouldn't get lower than 200ish. so i would say you are running normal.

a 160 stat should allow the temps to come down to around 170 with the fans on high. when i had my 96 with the fan switch (my ls1 has the crappy temp guage that doesn't move ) if the temps rose to a high level, with the switch on low the temp would stay where it was at. fi i put the fans i high, the temps would pull right down to 170ish no matter what the outside temp was.

sitting in traffic the lower stat won't do much without the fan switch (or programming) but driving around the car will benefit from the lower stat.
