Shift light question

Im getting a turbo400 and want a shift light. I dont want a big tachometer. Just a small light to mount discreetly on my dash. Someone told me i cant use one of these "unless" i have an MSD ignition!? If you know otherwise, how do i hook one up?

Re: Shift light question

You can hook up a shift light without an MSD box. Mine is wired into the wiring at the coil for the signal. On a 93 the wire is pink/black, may be different color on later years.

Re: Shift light question

if i remember correctly, white wire, pin 35 on the red connector on the ECM under the hood. that's the tach output wire

splice into that and just connect the power and ground.

and most lights will need to be set to "4 cylinder mode" due to the design of the LS1 ignition.

Re: Shift light question

As others mentioned, just hook it up to the PCM tach output. I run a Raptor light on my Z06 (and Hayabusa) and they work very well.
