What year is my car?

Today when i called slp for pricing on a loudmouth exhaust and install kit. I told them i have 96 z28 with a single cat. converter. They told me 95's came with a single and 96 came with dual cats. but my title has the as 1996 and the label on the car door says november 1995. So is it a 95 or a 96.

A Nov 1995 build would be a 1996. The 10th digit of the VIN tells the year. Are you sure it has not been modified by a previous owner?

How could you buy a car and NOT know what year it is?
If the title says 96, its a 96.

I aways thought it was a 96 but slp made me question it when then said they didn't put single cat. on 96 but my car has a single and to the best of my knowledge it looks like the original y-pipe and cat.

Re: What year is my car?

yeah it'll be on BIG cat after the Y or 2 small ones before the y, use the vin chart to decode your VIN if you are not sure what year the car is. hopefully you just cant see the other cat, otherwise you've managed to get an OBD I car VIN'ed and titled as a OBD II car. are you sure this car has never been in a wreck?

Yah, because the drivers side CAT is in the engine compartment, directly below the exhaust manifold, is round instead of oval or flat and not under the car a lot of people don't know it's a CAT or just miss it.

Nobody's holding a gun to your head. Don't buy a GM car, if you don't want to. All cars have their peculiarities.

I don't know who "they" are, but they are absolutely correct!

Re: What year is my car?

The opti is the best distributor GM ever made for a small block. It's just in a strange place (but put there for the most accuracy).

Probably half or more of the people on this board have never seen a set of points.

Re: What year is my car?

The opti works much better than a points type distributor. Installing, gapping, and setting the dwell on points is pretty much a thing of the past.
