I had to replace my fuel pump relay this weekend, and I noticed two wires, one black, one purple (if I remember correctly) that go through the firewall to the left and maybe a few inches up above the footrest for the driver's left foot. I knew immediately that the purple one was disconnected because I've seen it in the engine bay before. So I pulled it and it was the one that's disconnected. Any idea what it is? Aftermarket or stock? I'll draw a diagram of it tonight if I need to specify where it is more clearly.

 

Maybe this isn't any help but when it comes to the fuel pump and sender. The purple wire carries a signal current that runs to a potentiometer to produce your fuel level. The other side of that circuit is a black wire with a white stripe. There is a solid gray and black wire that provides current and ground for the in-tank fuel pump. I would suspect these colors carry back to the relay and gauge.

 

I should have made that more clear, these two wires that I'm talking about don't have anything to do with the fuel pump/relay. I was just working on that and saw the one that is disconnected.

 

You were clear with the description. I was just putting in my 2¢ .. The more action the thread gets the more likely you are to get an answer.

Also, the O2 sensors on my LS1 have a "purple" wire that prevails throughout the loom. This also is not likely to be of any help but I'm curious enough to take a look to see if I have this same wire on my 95.

 

I'd appreciate it if you'd look at yours and tell me where it goes if you've got it. I'd just reconnect it and see what happens. If my cell phone was working I'd take a pic of it.

 

I see no wires going through the firewall in that location on my 95's firewall. Anything going through should have a snug fitting grommet. If not, then you are looking at someones modification. If you can reconnect the wire then you should be able to trace the under hood portion to some end point or component. I realize most wires enter a loom beneath a protective sheath so tracing it along is not as easy as it sounds.

I can guess for quite a while on why those wires may have been there but at this point, I doubt they were factory installed.
