I think he means the black hose that he has the two arrow pointing to. Looks like part of the AIR system... the vacuum line. Try this diagram from Shoebox's website:

Re: What is this? and what does it do?

yeah i do mean that thin black line that injuneer is talkin about...now wen i did my opti spark intall...i was puttin everything back and was in a rush to finish up and the black line broke so i just shoved it back together...now since its a vacuum line i think it might not be creating a good vacuum now...and my rpms at idle will move up slightly and then back down to normal position and repeat this...and if it was an ignition problem like it was in the past...it would go down and then back up...but now it goes up and back down so i think it might be this vacuum line...any thoughts??...and i know its not ignition bc EVERYTHING pertaining to ignition is brand new...wires, plugs, coil, coil wire, opti, and stuff like looms and heat sleeving..even a new bcm and key if u wanna consider that..

Did you look at the diagram I linked? There's a couple vacuum lines shown in the lower/center diagram. I suspect it is one of those. You need to poke around and find what it connects. It's not likely an auto parts store will have an exact, ready-made replacement. A dealer might, so you would have to take the old one off and be able to describe exactly where it connects, so they could find it on their computer parts lookup.

Exactly what part is damaged? If its the hose, you can take the assembly to an auto parts store, and get a matching piece of plastic hose. Take the "ends" off your old hose (assuming they are still in good shaps) and put them on the new length of hose. You could probably find similar "ends" at an auto parts store if you wanted to make up a complete new line.

Re: What is this? and what does it do?

yeah its the hose itself that is damaged..in the pic i posted b4 it shows the original line linked with a rubber hose bc its broke...but thats not providing the vacuum that i need...and the ends are still good...and it connects the shut off valve to the vacuum solenoid...my little brother works for auto zone in the area so i went to his store today and they just said to take the vacuum line in and let them find a peice of hose that is the same diameter inside and out and just replace the hose using my original ends...but i will check with a dealer tomorrow..

Holy !!!! It looked like what you had on there was perfectly fine. As long as the piece of hose doesn't simply slide off the two pieces it's connecting, it's fine.

Re: What is this? and what does it do?

well thats the problem...it doesnt create a good enuff seal bc it slides off very easily and then my rpms waver up and down...and the dealer gave me the wrong vacuum line...one for the other half of the engine which i just used to replace anyway since they have a ridiculous no return policy..but now i still need the right vacuum line bc apparently no one on the earth can figure out which one it is...and auto zone(my local auto store) sold me some replacement emissions line and said to just plug the ends on it..but its not workin so hot and now the car is worse than b4...so i do need the replacement part from GM...where the end of the vacuum line on both sides is sort of "crimped" to create a good seal...

Re: What is this? and what does it do?

Why are you so hyper about "the right vacuum line"..... any line that fits is OK. If it just doesn't fit tight on one end, you go to any good auto parts store and by the matching end. The factory hoses are made up of various pieces, and all you have to do is replace the faulty piece. You're making this way too complicated. You could buy any and all the pieces in an auto parts store and assemble a whole new, matching line for a couple dollars.

Re: What is this? and what does it do?

bc i cant seem to get the right parts to make a vacuum line at a store around here and the line that i made from vacuum tubing that i got at auto zone and plugged into the two original ends isnt workin so well...causing my rpms to fluctuate...
