Re: What is SKIP SHIFT!

LS1_Edit is software that allows you to access and change the contents of the PCM programming, including the parameters that control Skip Shift, and the parameters that control the A/F ratio in power enrichment (PE) mode.

Seems that way, but 4th @ 15mph is no better. It was just a way to get the environazis off their backs for building our cars. Thankfully it was easily bypassed.

Re: What is SKIP SHIFT!

I don't know about the LS1's but I just pulled the cags solenoid connector out of the side of my gearbox. Problem solved, apart from the shift light coming on occasionally.

Did'nt cost me anything.

5th to 6th @ 49 mph
They must have made a huge number of modifications to the T56 used in the LSx cars to make it do all that "computer-aided" shifting... there was no way on the LT1 versions of the T56 for the PCM to know what gear it was in, or to force shifts at any speed. And I know the T56 I pulled out of a 99 SS did not have any different electronic connections than the one out of my 94 or the spare I have sitting in the garage out of a 97.

Argue with the factory manual. I didn't pull the info out of no where.

Not arguing with anyone -

... simply pointing out that there must be a significant difference in the T56 used in your 2000 model. I would never question the factory manual. We all know they are never incorrect.

Re: What is SKIP SHIFT!

Skip shift doesn't FORCE you into 5th and 6th at those speeds. Those are just the recommended shift sequences AFTER the 1 to 4 shift happens.

Once you go into 4th, skip shift is done. You can go into 5th and/or 6th whenever you wish, though it would probably be wise to not do so at speeds any lower than those listed.

Thanks for confirming that.

Re: What is SKIP SHIFT!

$20 CAGS eliminator was well worth it.. I got it as a gift actually.. It looks like it actually belongs there.. and you generally don't have to every worry about it again.. vs the resistor mod, could burn out, or work itself loose after years... After 7 years, I have totally forgotten about it.. and mentally blanked out the skipshift light..

Re: What is SKIP SHIFT!

My T56 disappeared in 2001, replaced with a TH400 with manual valve body. The "skip shift" light still comes on, as I bang my way through the gears with the B&M Pro-Ratchet shifter. I don't even notice the light any more. If I ever pull the gauge panel to remove the "airbag" and "low trac" bulbs, I'll pull the bulb out of skip shift as well.

Re: What is SKIP SHIFT!

49mph is a hair under 1100rpm in 6th, and I do that all the time. I'll run as low as 40mph in 6th, but I usually wait until at least 45mph (1000 rpm).

I get 30+mpg in 6th with the cruise control set at 45.
