What is this part?

Guys, what the heck is this thing that the throttle cable goes into and then another cable comes out and goes to the throttle body?

Whatever it is it is melted on the side closest to the intake manifold, and a cable is showing, and the thing won't turn properly inside the black housing.

I am a brand new 4th gen Bird owner, and I am thinking I can get rid of this part and just run a straight throttle cable to the throttle body.

Thanks!

Re: What is this part?

That's part of the optional traction control system. It modulates the throttle based on input from the traction control computer. You can delete it if you want to give up traction control.

Re: What is this part?

Ah thank you!

I am hoping I can get rid of this contraption and then use my throttle cable from a 97 Camaro that did not have traction control and that the cable will fit perfectly.

I imagine it should.

I'm going to install the LTCC coils over the valve covers, and that thing is right in my way.

There are other places to install the coils:

Re: What is this part?

Thanks Injuneer for your answer.

Where do I run the evap line from the fuel tank, after I delete the purge solenoid?

I want to keep the fuel tank vented for sure.

Re: What is this part?

Why do you want to delete the EVAP system? It keeps the fuel stink down at the back of the car, and you are using gasoline vapor to run the engine, that would otherwise just blow out into the atmosphere.

I took mine out, but it's a track car. I also took the canister out. I simply put a piece of fine mesh cloth over the end of the vent hose from the tank to keep anything from crawling in it. But I kind of enjoy the fumes from a tank of C16. I wouldn't drive it on the street like that.

Re: What is this part?

Thank you......where do I run the line to? I mean what do I hook it to if not the purge solenoid or evap can? Do I just run it somewhere and vent it to the atmosphere?

Sorry i posted my question two other Places. Just wanted to make sure I got an answer or several answers.

Re: What is this part?

Just pull the line that goes to the purge solenoid off the canister. See Shoebox's diagram. The EVAP purge solenoid tube attaches to connection #3 on the canister.

If you leave the purge line connected, but delete the EVAP purge solenoid, the fuel smell will end up in the engine compartment, rather than in the back.
