Doesn't matter how long the rods are - they do not determine displacement. Only thing that counts is bore and stroke. Assuming you started with a stock bore of 4.000 and overbored it to 4.030.....

[Area of piston] x stroke x # of cylinders

[PI x (bore/2)^2] x stroke x 8

[3.1416 x (4.030/2)^2] x 4.000 x 8

12.756 x 4.000 x 8 = 408.18 cubic inches

gotta know inital bore size first before calculating .030 overbore and stroke.

Not true. Unless it was bored .030 over, a 350 with a 400 crank would be 377 ci.

Using the formula that Injuneer just posted:

12.57 X 3.75 X 8 = 377.10

Injuneer, I dont want to be a pain in the *** but, I'm trying to understand this: [Area of piston] x stroke x # of cylinders.

how do I figure "area of piston" can you explain that bro?

Area of piston = PI x (bore/2)^2

Re: What makes a 383ci??

Like wdtiger said... The area of the piston is PI x the radius squared.

(bore/2) is the radius...
