What kills our window motors?
What kills our window motors?
I hear a lot of stuff about our window motors dieing. I've noticed mine have slowed down lately but no where near as slow as one I tried at a dealership.
Is it heat, moisture, or lack of lubrication? I have my doors apart so i thought I'd do some maintainance on them if they need it.

mainly bad design. ive also heard they suffer from being under powered. i think they switched to a cheaper vendor right around the debut of the 4th gen. the original window motors in my 92 fullsize truck still work awesome, and that thing has 192k miles on it. There are permanent marks in the window from going up and down so many times and yet it still works great.

Get in there with some white lithium, as stated. Also, make sure the thing isn't about to fall out...those rivets don't really stand up over time. There's nothing like coming to a hard stop and hearing a loud *crash* *bang* *clunk* inside of your door!
Re: What kills our window motors?
Use white lithium grease. I've read on here that the windows are just under powered. Someone wired up some relays and said that helped them a lot. Also there was a post about taking the motors apart and doing some sort of internal wiring mod to them that makes them run better/last longer. It was a long time ago. A search might bring it up.

Here is a good post about modifying a motor, supposedly you get more speed out of them.
