Weird electrical problem

Hello all,

I'm having some weird electrical problem with my unmodded 99 Z28 6MT, and am hoping you guys here could help me shed some light on it.

Intermittantly, either while driving or at when starting, several electrical systems will just cut out. When it happens, the stereo (and clock), power windows, cigarette lighter, and (I think) rear defroster all die. A/C, head and fog lights, in-cabin and dashboard lights, and power locks are unaffected. Sometimes the systems just flicker on and off for a bit, or sometimes they stay off for anywhere from a few minutes to a few days. For a while, pressing the power locks switch would frequently bring things back online. Then that trick stopped working, but holding a (dead) power window switch up while pressing the power locks works often now. While the systems are down, the stereo display is blank, but pressing the "recall" button does display the clock, but the display goes blank again after 5 seconds.

I'm totally stumped by this, but maybe you guys have some idea what could be wrong?

Thanks,

Jeff

Re: Weird electrical problem

Have you tried anything to fix it yet?

Checked battery connections?
Checked red plastic positive junction on passenger fenderwell?
Checked ground junction on passenger fenderwell?

Lightbulb Grounds are always a good start.

I looked here http://web.archive.org/web/200112181...regg/gmsi.html , but did not see any specific bulletins on the '99's .

I think there is a body control module in these cars - perhaps that might have something to do w/ it ?

Good Luck !

Re: Weird electrical problem

Take a wire brush to your battery connections, as well as the ground connection on the inside fender. Good luck.

Thanks for the tips! I haven't tried any fixes yet, but I'll start with these suggestions tomorrow morning.
