who's drilled the wrong rivets on window motor??

So..the directions that came with the window motor just simply say 'drill out the rivets.' Well i did that, and needless to say i will be going to the hardware store to pick up some bolts to replace the rivets that mount the assembly to the door. Don't bother giving me shoebox's site, i have read it before...i read up on it like 2 weeks ago and i thought for sure i would remember just fine. Just out of curiosity, who all has done this?? I ask this mainly so that i feel better about being retarded as i so clearly am. Also, the correct way to fix this poroblem is to just simply replace the rivets with bolts..right??

thanks,
trav

I don't want to say you are retarded because we all make stupid mistakes, but, I just don't see how you drilled out the wrong ones. I have replaced both of mine and it is a pain in the ***. And, yes, you do just replace the rivets with the bolts.

well if nobody else will admit it i will. Ive done it but in my defense i've never read shoebox's website. no big deal just replace with correct size bolts and learn from mistakes.

Re: who's drilled the wrong rivets on window motor??

in my defense...i read the site like 2 weeks ago and i got over zealous. I just kinda breezed through the site thinking..'this will only take 10 mins, it'll be a cake walk'. Also, i am running on zero sleep, this weekend my girlfriend and i have done:new clutch, oil pan gasket, rear main, spark plugs, 58mm throttle body and a msd coil. After i have done all of this crap the one thing to hold me up from being done with my car is a friggen window motor..little bastard. Apparently using nuts and bolts is just too easy, no, we gotta use rivets. I am only 20 yrs old, i could use a few more grey hairs anyways.

First time I replaced one I was drilling out the rivits, and my drill bit wouldn't even go through the wrong rivits. I tried drilling them for like 5 minutes straight, then finally realized I was doing the wrong ones.

Shoebox's site is a must for drilling out the rivets. I know i would of turned my door into swiss cheese trying to find the right spot. Thanks to his pic i hit the right spot the first time.

hehe I uploaded the pics from shoebox's site to my digital camera and took it with me to the parking garage I did it in.

I drilled on one wrong rivet, but stopped, after I realized I was an idiot, then did more research and got the pics on my camera to look at..

Wow, everyone sure is making me nervous I just got my new motor and am getting ready to do the driver side. I work for FedEx and think I might just blow a few pictures up to poster size just to be sure I don't mess this up

Re: who's drilled the wrong rivets on window motor??

Only problem I had was getting the holes drilled in the door at the right spots.. I made a drawing off shoebox's site and took it out but still missed.. Luckily the doors are fiberglass and I was able to use needlenose pliers and make the holes a little bigger... I took the new motor and looked at it at the same angle as the original in the door and I could see where the rivets went so that wasn't really a problem.
