Weight saving worth it???

Ok ,im rebuilding my car for the 5th year now and it should be the last one,so the car will be running this summer(finger cross).

It got pretty much everything new.The crate lt4 will remain stock with all the bolt on already installed. So im trying to make the car has powerful has possible and still keeping the in stock form.It has been built for auto x or lapping. It will also be driven in the weekend with a lot of spirit So i thought about doing some weight shaving.

I took off:
-The A/C system(line, compressor, core, all)with the install of a a/c delete pulley
-The traction control system with the install of a non tcs throttle cable
-The abs and cruise control system(big module and everything) with the install of a proportion valve
-Air pump
-Remove the back seats with the security belt(40 pounds here),i dont used them and no one his sitting in the back because of the lack of space
-Installed some Stranos springs wich are made by vogland and weight 14 pounds less than normal lowering spring
-Installed a tubular race umi k-member with tubular a-arm(30 pounds here)

I was thinking about maybe install some new race seat(corbeau Forza) that only weight 16 pounds How much are the leather stock one weight???

Am i doing all of this for nothing because its not enough to be worth it or no???And what should be the next step without cutting everything

Stock front leather power seat weighs 42lbs. Sounds like you got a healthy amount of weight out of it already while retaining some creature comfort. What about an aftermarket fiberglass hood? How much do you like heat? Remove the rest of the HVAC system and the huge box on the firewall would save some weight as well.

Post up some pics of the setup thus far!

If your seats aren't power they really don't weigh that much. I've got my passenger seat laying in the floor right now, and I would say it weighs right around 20lbs(+or-). As for some more weight saving info check out here "Weight Reduction List"

There's a lot of weight to be lost, but only you can decide how extreme you want to go.

My cloth, non-power driver's seat weighed 34#. I replaced it with the Corbeau Forza. While the Forza only weighs 16#, I got their 4th Gen F-Body custom slider bracket, and that added 10# back in, so the net weight savings was only 8#. But it holds you tight on the corners (when the car used to go around corners ).

Is it worth saving 8#...... I think so. I also deleted my sun visors .

Injuneer:I also delete my sunvisor Im 6 foot 3inch and those things are useless to me.

How is the ride confort in those forza??I know that they will suit me well in my track event but how about a 300 miles trip on the road????

I got leather power seats with the small compressor under the driver seat.I ll try to take some pics of the car but it got nothing really special, just clean has hell with pretty much everything new(even al sensor and bolts).

I already got the link posted in my "favorites)" thanks.I want to keep the car like a clean street car,so no hacking or cutting.I ll keep the carpet but probably gonna take off the sound deadening material.I dont want a fiberglass hood.I would choose between a slp oem ram air hood(for look) or VIS racing CF one.

It sure didn't feel like 34lbs to me; I must be stronger than I think

Also, like the op asked, how would those seats be for extended periods of driving, such as in a DD?

As for the carpet, I would recommend the lightweight carpet speed inc. sells. It weighs less than 20lbs, where as stock carpet weighs close to 50lbs. I bought the carpet without the hatch section and the UPS sticker showed the weight at 11lbs. I completely understand if the price isn't worth it to you though, as I just bought it because my carpet was molded from water leaks.

Link if you're interested. Link

The longest I've ever sat in it is a 2-hour drive. Its comfortable - excellent support, but confining. It really wraps around the hips, upper thighs and shoulders. If you are on the heavy side, check the width - I believe they make a wider model. But I'm not sure I could fit anything wider between the console and the side bar. The headrest portion tilts very slightly forward, which is no problem with normal driving, but with a helmet on, its right up against the helmet. Probably a good thing from the point of view of minimizing head movement in a crash, but it limits the ability to get the helmet in a really comfortable position. Not a problem for a short (1/4-mile) drive, though.

Also any point of view on this comment that i ve found on a bmw forums about tubular seats:

"The Forza has a tubular frame, not a fiberglass shell.I would not buy a tubular seat as I would not want any tube to make holes in my heavenly body if I have an accident."

I've never heard of anyone getting hurt from a tubular seat. I mean you just have to believe a company that's pretty well known, like Corbeau, wouldn't put out a seat that could injure someone in an accident.

21 inch deep

When I bought the Forza many years ago, I'm pretty sure the website said it was FIA approved. I don't see that indicated now. I know the upholstery has changed over the years, and now it includes a nut on the back so that it can be bolted to the crossbar, as required by NHRA.

The Forza is the perfect entry level racing seat. The Forza racing seat combines comfort, performance, and safety at an absolutely unbeatable price. If you enjoy racing and want a practical seat, the Forza is a hard one to pass on. The Forza is also ideal for tight space and minimal headroom applications. As a rule of thumb, the Forza racing seat will fit up to a 36 inch waist , while the Forza Wide will fit up to a 42 inch waist. High wear patches are strategically placed to protect your seat from abuse in the high wear areas. The Forza racing seat is available in cloth, with leatherette high wear patches, microsuede, with leather high wear patches, and 100% black vinyl.
I'll measure the seat today and see exactly how close it is to the console and the door panel, to see how much additional room there is for the wider seat. My roll bar was installed and the sidebar bent to fit around the stock Firebird seat. I just have to pull another car out of the garage so that I can acces the Formula.

Then I installed the Forza, and it was just fortunate that the sidebar happened to fit around it. Here is the Forza with the sidebar swung out, so you can see how it looks without the bar:

This is a shot from the passenger side:
