Vats disabled. Can I use a blank key without resistor
Vats disabled. Can I use a blank key without resistor
Lost the keys for my 95 Lt1 Z. I think I had my vats disabled when they retuned my computer. Can I use a blank key without resistor to start my car. I just need to put the car away for the winter. Over the winter I should be able to find my spare keys.
Re: Vats disabled. Can I use a blank key without resistor
If all you had done was have VATS programmed out of the PCM, then you still need the chip in the key to allow starter operation. If you also did a resistor bypass or wired around the TDR, then you don't need a key with a chip.

Thanks Shoebox
Thats not the answer I was looking for but it is what it is. Is there anyway to tell which resistor I need. I'm pretty sure I saw #8 somewhere. Does tuning software list which resistor is used under vats ?

I dont have a key to measure. I swear while my buddy had his Tech II scanner plugged in I saw something about the vats resistor ?
Sounds like I'm going to have to go to the dealer. Last time I did this 10 years ago it cost me $229 for one key : (

Re: Vats disabled. Can I use a blank key without resistor
The computer knows nothing of the resistance of the key. That info is in the TDM. Your best bet would be to bypass the TDR. Info is in this link.
Re: Vats disabled. Can I use a blank key without resistor
Use the method of grounding the yellow/black wire of the TDR to maintain transmission safety. As the other method of jumping the yellow to purple wire would allow the car to be cranked in any position of the transmission (auto) or with the clutch out.
