Question Trouble recharging my A/C on 94Z...HELP! lol!!!

well i tried to charge my A/C earlier today, i emptied the system, and i connected the hose to the low pressure fitting (the one by the fender well...correct?) but when i pierced the can and and shook it nothing happened, in other words it didn't draw in the r134. would that mean the compressor isn't working??? Before i did anything, with car running and A/C on Max. the compressor was clicking on and off. i am just wondering if i don't have a leak, but then when the system was drained i had a gauge on it and there was plenty of pressure and there was r134 in the system that was purged out.

is it that that the compressor isn't working properly?

are there any telltale signs? or is there something else i can check?

thanks any tips are greatly appreciated! the a/c worked fine last year! and now it really wasn't keeping up in the heat!

so you evacuated all teh freon out and your now adding? the low side (bigger hose) port is located here http://shbox.com/1/refrigerant_sensor.jpg .. first off.. make sure that you have the hose all teh way on the port. some are a quik dissconnect and some slip on then turn. then peirce the can while holding it upside down and open the valve (if it has one) some should now go in even with teh car off.. then start the car and put in aprox 3 cans.. the compressor will short cycle for a little while till about teh 2nd can is in

How did you empty the system? If you just depressurized the system into the atmosphere then chances are you're not gonna get anywhere. The system needs to be vacuumed first.

Nobody told you???

Your A/C automatically stops working when you run in the NINE'S

Seriously though, HBHRacing is dead on. Although it is recommended to pull up to 30 inches on the system, it's not necessary for it to function. Your prolly not getting anything in due to the A/C low pressure switch on the low side line not letting the compressor come on at all. I had to go through the same deal when I recharged mine after yet another motor swap.

With the car OFF, put in some of the first can. Now start the car up and cut the A/C on and make sure the compressor cycles (* it will short cycle due to the VERY low pressure in the system). Now add in your two cans normally. It should work ok, but not to it's potential. You'll really need to have it evac'ed and filled by a recharging station (unless you have access to one). They are gonna charge you the same if it's bone dry or just needs a little. SO I guess I'm saying save yourself a little trouble, and just take it to a shop. Garage owning buddy of mine here did it for about 40 bucks. I'm sure you can find the same sortta deal up there..

OBTW, it kicks a$$ to see someone from here in the PGD's Those musta been some hella fast cars..

Not sure what the ambient temp there is, but it might help to put the can into a pan[basin etc] of hot water .. I do that at times, it helps push it out..
And I have never read where that would cause a problem.. maybe try that?..
