For a 1997 V6 RS, Turbo Charged 305 or 5.7 350???
For a 1997 V6 RS, Turbo Charged 305 or 5.7 350???
Well not to SOON but eventually I'm going to have an engine swap done to my 97 RS, I believe the Older 3rd Gen RS's came with 305's (I'm not sure so don't bash me if I'm wrong).
I want to have this done because I like the car and want to make it unique... not so much for the poweradder (although that DOES play one heck of a factor) so I'm not ganna trade off for a Z28... (and yes I know a Z28 can be ALOT cheaper)
What I want to know is what would it be better to make it into?...a Turbo Charged 305 V8 or a Z28 / Corvette 350? Which would be cheaper? which would be more reliable and have the higher power gains? and which would be more ecenomical on fuel?
just my curious questions if you don't mind...

Personally I wouldn't mess with a turbo charged 305 over an LT1. You can get a great amount of power out of the LT1 for alot less money. I understand you wanting to be unique, I just don't think this is the way to go about it. If you really want a V8, just sell the 97 V6 and buy a 93-95 F-body. I think you'll be alot happier with a true Z28, not to mention it would have the V8 suspension under it already.

I concur.
However I money isn't an issue for you, and you simply wish to be unique - then why not look into adding a blower to your current 3.8L?
I would stay clear of a turbocharged 305........
At least begin with a decent engine if you are going to start adding boost.
Your 3.8L would come close to if not smoke a stock 305.

I understand buying a Z28 is a heck of alot cheaper for performance, but After you got a Z... you just got a Z... thats it... They came stock with that much power therefor just isn't as "special" as a RS with a V8 in it... But yeah I heard alot of reliability issues with the 305 thats why I was questioning. I'll probably drop a LS1 in it. A turbo charged 3.8 would rock and would move plenty... and would probably be the cheapest bet... but then again, a turbo'd dropped in LS1 would have history behind it and would swollow a Turbo'd 3.8 whole... well...depending on boost anyway. The coolest thing, when a Cobra see's my RS badge and pulls beside me... he'll never see it coming
