Tow Hitch for Trailer on a Camaro?!

Hope this is the right forum to ask this.

Does anyone know if a tow hitch and trailer can go on a Camaro?

Here's my setup and what I'm looking to do and why.

Currently have an 01 Z28 (T-top) with SLP's "Powerflo" Full Exhaust Kit (4" tips). Looking to find a tow hitch kit to install on my Camaro for an enclosed trailer so I can tow one motorcycle (02 Yamaha R1, weight is approx 410 lbs).

Is this even possible? Will it damage the tranny? Body? Frame? Anything else? Max tow weight 1,000 lbs to include trailer? Max recommended speed for driving with trailer and bike attached?

I do not have a truck or access to one just yet. I know, why the heck am I going to try to tow a bike on a Camaro. I'm trying to go with what I have now. I'm planning to do some driving to a few places out of state. I'd like to know if anyone else has done this before or know of anyone who has. What would you recommend? Any advice is appreciated. Good or bad.

Thanks!

I have seen Camaros with trailer hitches but I can't speak for myself. I don't see why it would be a problem, you definitely would have enough torque, haha, the ride might be pretty rough though. I would imagine it wanting to bounce all over the highway.

As for towing motorcycles behind cars, my dad had a '71 GTX back in the day and he said he used to tow his 750 Honda all the time behind it and my mom even talked him into towing a horse trailer behind it once, he didn't recommend trying that though! Damn REDNECKS will do anything!

Hey Rex,

Thanks for the info! Well if your dad's 71 GTX towed a Honda 750, I better be able to tow an R1 on a Z28! Hahaha. I think my real problem is getting the tow hitch kit fully installed on the Z28's rear with the SLP Powerflo exhaust kit already installed. I'm wondering if the exhaust will be in the way. Any thoughts on that?

Imagine a horse being towed on the back of a Camaro. Would cause some serious rubber necking!

Honestly I would go out and buy a junk truck just to tow your cycle. Not the Maro...

I used to tow my GSXR 750 to races with my 92 RS. I had a small 4'x6' open trailer though. I would think the enclosed trailer might be a problem. They are kinda heavy and create a lot of wind drag. We als used to haul a pair of 2 seater sea-doos with it.

Make sure you put a decent tranny cooler on there.

You can pick up a pretty decent 4x6 open trailer for under $500 new, x2 on going that route for less weight (under 300lbs) and easier towing.

Hi Chris,

Hadda hitch on my 94 Z. No differance between it and any other car. Still have the hitch that I took off after I sold the car.

When I was club roadracing motorcycles back in the early 90's, I would tow my bike with a 1988 Honda Accord. I did that for three years from the San Francisco Bay area to Willow Springs six times a year in Southern California and to Sears Point in Sonoma six to seven times per year. I even towed my bike and a friends roadrace bike to Willow Springs one time with no problems. Your Camaro should do the trick.
