Are my local Chevy dealers lying??

They are telling me http://www.gmpartsdirect.com has nothing to do with GM.
My 1997 Camaro bumper is about $240 marked from $377 but the dealers are telling me they can get it for only $377 and that the website is prolly aftermarket.

SO what I'm asking is this a legal or authentic GM website with parts and schematics.

I notice the parts are cheaper on that website and do you guys shop on there?

Yes, they are an actual GM distributor. They are a division of Flow Chevrolet. They answer your questions in their FAQ. I've ordered many times from them and got authentic GM parts every time.

Your dealer only wants to sell at full markup. Find another dealer willing to work with you a little bit. They should be able to give you dealer trade pricing if you shop there a lot.

gmpartsdirect is just a name, but it is a part of a real GM dealer (Flow Chevrolet as already indicated).

At full markup plus some.................I needed 3 interior retainers that were listed at $4.18/piece on the gmpartsdirect site........stopped by the local dealer just to check to see if they had them so I could get them quicker......
sure could at $9 a pop and since they came in a pack of 10 I had to buy the whole pack for $90!

Most local dealerships make thier monies/profits on selling parts, hence the mark up.....

Some are more rediculous than others, but atleast in my case, I'll print a copy from gmpartsdirect and bring it in to see if they are willing to lower the price... It might not be as good as gmpartsdirect, but close...

Usually they do, and I save from being raped by gmpartsdirect shipping costs..... Plus it helps if you always deal with just the same person..

Omg

Shipping from that website is another $140 for a bumper. I almost had a heart attack!!

I will pay the extra $10 at the dealership because they said it only takes 4 days from virginia and if there is a problem I can deal with them face to face.

Maybe I should buy a $130 bumper off Ebay I hope its made of DURAFLEX

I have been able to buy all of my parts from my in town dealers at the "wholesale" price for my Chevy and Honda cars. During the initial conversation between myself and the parts manager, I asked him how much a part I needed at the time was and asked them if they can give me a discount. I mentioned that I could get the parts online at a much lower price and pay no sales tax, I then added that I would rather buy the parts from them. It is a few dollars more than online, but I keep the money in the local economy.

+1- I do this with tires, too- print out the sheet showing cost, shipping, then ask the guy at the parts counter if he can come close- they will usually try, rather than have you take your money somewhere else-
