Tilt Steering and Tail Lights

After many probelms with my brake lights not working(tail lights, third brake light, flashers, hazards and turn signals do work) I finally noticed something this morning when I go out to my car. If my steering wheel is in the lowest position, my brake lights won't work. If I hold the brakes and adjust my wheel up, my break lights will come on. Also, if I pull the adjustment lever and pull down on the steering wheel(which is not actually a position) the break lights will come on as well. This is good news because now I actually know how to get my lights to work but sucks because I can't put my steering wheel in the lowest, most confortable position for me. Anyone know what causes this? Is there a part in the steering column that is known to cause this problem? If so, is it hard to get to? I'm hoping it's not one of the "find the wire that's faulty" problems.

Re: Tilt Steering and Tail Lights

probably the wires running up the column to the turn signal switch, to fix you will need to tear into the column

If you move your steering wheel up and down alot for getting in and out it will wear on the wires and can cause a break or a short. You are ging to have to tear into the column I would recommend replacing hte turnsignal switch because it will have the wires on it that way you don't have to try and cut ans splice because if I remember correctly its a flast wiring harness and would be kinda difficult also because of placement.

It could be tugging at that flat connector that was mentioned and causing a problem. Check for a good connection there, first.
