Third Brake Light Problem

Hello,
A couple of months ago the third brake light bulbs on my 93 z28 went out, so when I checked them, one was completely black, and the other one had exploded. So I changed them, and now I'm having the same issue, except they're a smoky white color this time, and it seems the heat they were producing melted some of the plastic light cover. It seems like they are over amping, but being a newb, I have no idea how to fix this issue. All help is greatly appreciated

Did you check that the bulbs you installed were the correct ones specified by the owner's manual?

I cant find my owners manual at the moment but according to autozones website I'm using the right bulb. Not sure how reliable they are though.

If you need it:

Owner's manuals

Have you measured any voltage at the lights?

Since the bulb I used was right I spliced in different sockets that used lower wattage bulbs... Hopefully this doesn't make things worse.
