I have a chance to buy an 86' IROC, from a family member, I've only seen the car once and i know its is in pretty good shape. No rust that i remember and i know it has the 305 in it. What else can you guys tell me about them.

 

If its a TPI, there actually is no rust, its pretty clean, and the price is right, I'd probably buy it.

If its TBI, I'd probably not, the heads that came on the LO3s are terrible, my friend has a cammed LO3 converted to carb(with an edelbrock manifold/carb) with headers, and gets stomped by an 05 auto v6 mustang convertible, talking multiple car lengths.

IROCs are my favorite f-body also. And one year, I recall, they were considered the best handling car, dont remember what year though.

Iam a big fan of them.. i was looking forever for an IROC, then somehow i ended up with a fourth gen! But no, there nice car's an i would buy one without a doubt

 

Many 1986 IROCs have the 305 TPI I think. Its been a while.
Thy are good cars but dog slow. My near stock 89 Mutang GT would destroy all 305's and most 350's back in the day.

I always liked the 3rd gen IROCS, theres just something about them. Nearly all were autos, only a few had the 5 speed.

Thanks for all your comments guys, but i just talked to my cousin and they want $2200 for the car, i thought it was going to be cheaper, i told her to call me back when it gets under a grand.

 

If it's a clean TPI car, it's worth 2200 bucks. I'm looking for a car for my girl, where's this thing at in michigan?
