Re: tach and shiftlight

The gm engineers didn't really leave us a good place on the 4th gens, the onlly spot i've seen them before is on the top of the dash in the center. Which is actually a good spot for it since you can watch the r's and the tree at the same time. I plan on hiding a shift light in the center vent of my camaro, i'm goin for the sleeper look i guess.

Re: tach and shiftlight

I have a 5" AutoMeter tach and shift light. I mounted it on top of the dash, right over the louvered vent panel. That way, the bolts that support the tach, and the tach wiring goes through the vent panel, and did not make any holes in the dash.

Sort of overly visible when you're driving down the street, but mine is not really driven on the street any more.

And before anybody rants about it looking "ricer", the stocker really wasn't cutting it on an engine with a redline over 7,000rpm. And I'm so d@mn old I can't see the stock tach anyway.....

Re: tach and shiftlight

I made a bracket that mounts to a screw in the glove box. It is easily removable so that for daily driving it can be removed with no sign of it, and no damage to the dash. I wired it with a plug that plugs into a harness under the dash, so the so the whole thing can be installed or removed in less than 5 minutes.

Here is a link to my site that has some pics. The first page shows it all installed, then the second page has a pic (scroll to the right to see it) of the mounting bracket. I havent painted the bracket yet though.

My reason for doing this was so that when I go to the track I can have the tach and shift light, but then I can take it off for normal driving. If someone wanted to use it all the time, they could run the wires through a vent or something to eliminate the wire loom.
