Subframe mounting
Subframe mounting
Gotta get new bushings and bolts to mount my subframe back up to the body, and I see they make the standard rubber and poly ones. My question is for those people that replaced theres. Which ones are better and from who?
Re: Subframe mounting
As you've probably noticed, there are not many 1st Gen owners on the site. At this point I'd guess that 80-90% of the regulars are 4th Gen. Hopefully you will get lucky and get a response.
Re: Subframe mounting
Rubber has better compliance, rides better and quieter. Poly will be stiffer, the "performance" mod, they may squeak, and will likely ride harsher. Depends on your final use.
Re: Subframe mounting
Either one is going to work for you, It seems a lot of guys mostly cruise their classics and you may not notice the benefits of the poly. However personally I've never had issues with poly making noise. A little grease helps with some sometimes too and poly seems to outlast the rubber for me. My vote is for poly.
Re: Subframe mounting
I restored a '67 SS350 back in the early 90's. The bushings were replaced with the same durometer rubber as factory. The ride was fine. Although it wasn't a daily driver, we did bash it at the track a bit. I never experienced any unwanted frame flex or squeeks. The kit came with all the correct bolts, washers and spacers along with the bushings. For me the rubber was a better option. I can't remember the manufacuter's name tho.
