Student's 95'Z28, No cold A/C
Hi All,
I'm a B-body guy so forgive my intrusion
One of my students has a 95'Z28 which is starting to have typical 10 year old problems.
Currently, it's no cold A/C. I made an assumption and told him to go get a recharge kit and we'll top it off. The A/C blew cold last fall, so I figured he has a winter o-ring leak like I've seen time and again.
Not it. In fact, the gauge on the recharger showed in the red (too high a pressure). I had him switch back and forth between MAX and OFF and noticed I can't hear the compressor click (like my Imp does).
I checked the fuses and relay and they are good.
So thinking the system won't activate the compressor in an over-pressure state, he resolved the high pressure problem just enough for the gauge to show in the blue "full" area. Still no compressor click.
I was thinking of jumpering the compressor just incase.
Is the following diagram correct for a 95'?
- <---jump this one
l-l
l <---to this one
2. Could it be a bad pressure sensor, where is it and how do I test for that? Resistance maybe?
3. Is it possible for a bad secondary fan relay to prevent the compressor from activating? I know the B-bodies are set up that way.
4. Last thing I can think of is it's the compressor itself. Anyway to test for that on-car?
Thanks for the help.

Re: Student's 95'Z28, No cold A/C
I'm thinking bad AC compressor clutch coil.
Certainly go through all the tests you mentioned (someone will chime in on specifics if need be) before tossing out parts, but those coils tend to go quietly.

Thanks for the ideas, I'll have him check both of those. He's not very car savvy though and I don't have a code reader that'll work for his car (mine's OBD1).

Ahh, thanks for the info. Early 95 Imps are OBD1, while later are OBDII. His is from late in the year so I figured it was the same.
