SS ram air or K&n air
SS ram air or K&n air
I need some help making up my mind. I own a 1996 SS with ram air option and I own a K&N air filter set-up with a high flowing elbow from my 93 z28.
Which one flows more air ? I take my car to the Drag strip in the summer and will be upgrading intake and heads soon. Anyone have some tech info on the ram air
Thank you

This got discussed a while back:

If I had a real '96 SS I'd continue to use the stock hood, airbox & ducting. It keeps a "rare" car more correct and I don't feel you will be giving up siginificant, if any power. HTH

K&N FIPK verses stock SS ram air intake and hood
Thanks for the information. I will install my K&N FIPK set up for racing and stock for the rest of the year . Does anyone have any real numbers comparing the two set ups.

From what I've read/seen the SS ram air setup typically is better at speeds over 80mph and the CAI is better from around idle to 80mph. That being said, you may notice a minimal gain in the quarter mile with the CAI. I kept my stock ram air setup because it's more rare/unique and I go to car shows more than I go to the track.
