Squealing Left and Right

Hey everyone,

My car has started to squeal very loudly when the steering wheel is being turned left or right. Bumps also seem to make it squeal. The noise is coming from the front of the car. I don't think its the power steering because it seems to work fine. Could it be the shocks?

The car is a 1994 Z28 with QA1 adjustable drag shocks and Eibach drag springs in the front. Thanks.

Carlos

PS: I already posted this on the suspension forum, but I think I can get a quicker response here. Thanks

If the power steering is bad it would make the noise while parked as you turn the wheels. Need to know exactly where the noise is. If the springs or shocks are making it, you can push on the fender and compress them to see if it does it.

Does it happen whether the car is warm or cold, moving or stopped? What does the squeal sound like, groan, high pitched? Does it continue for as long as the wheel is turned or stop when stop turning the wheel?

i say its the power steering

it may still work fine, but if it may be a sign that the pump is starting to go out.

Might sound dumb, but is the belt slipping? I've seen tesioners go bad and not keep proper tension on the belt many times.

It's actually more of a groan, or creak. It happens also when the car is pushed up and down and not just when the steering wheel is turned.

My poly bushing on the rear end make the same sound your describing. You might need to lube the chassis if your using rubber bushings or grease the bushing if they have the grease fittings. Assuming the shocks or springs are the cause.

My guess is it's either a tierod end or a balljoint.

I just hope it is something simple. Bushings sound harder than tierod end or ball joint only because it looks like it may be the control arm bushings.
